"We meet you where you are with therapy services, lived experience, and hope."
We empower and advocate for families raising children and youth with neurobiological, behavioral health challenges, serious emotional disorders, or brain injuries. Through trauma-informed therapy, education, and community-based services, we support healing and resilience. We provide training for families and professionals, advocate for policies that improve mental health outcomes, and promote public awareness to reduce stigma and increase access to essential resources. Our commitment is to ensure that every child and family has the support they need to thrive.
At Better Together, we believe every family deserves a safe space to heal, grow, and belong. Through our trauma-informed therapy and peer advocacy, we’re building a community where today’s healing secures a brighter future for tomorrow’s generations.
Families navigating foster care and adoption
1/5
Healing begins with a safe, trusting relationship. With over 15 years of experience and advanced training in trauma, attachment, neuroscience, grief, and family systems, I bring warmth, skill, and deep respect to each person’s journey. This is a collaborative process. You bring your inner wisdom, and therapy helps uncover it. Through connection, choice, and compassionate awareness, healing becomes possible and transformative. It’s a privilege to walk this path with you. Every step is met with care, presence, and genuine commitment. For parents, I offer support that strengthens your bond with your child and provides tools that truly help even in the most challenging moments. Together, we choose the tools that best support your healing, drawing from Internal Family Systems (IFS), EMDR, Nurtured Heart Approach®, sand tray therapy, attachment-based work, and neuroscience-informed practices.
I bring both professional expertise and a heart shaped by lived experience. For more than four years, I have served as a Family Peer Support Worker and Trainer for the COI, helping families navigate complex systems, find the resources they need, and hold onto hope in hard times. As a mom of four—two adopted from the state foster care system—I have personally walked the road of raising children with significant mental health needs. I know the heartbreak, the challenges, and the profound rewards of seeing healing and connection grow. My own journey of advocating for my children’s rights, navigating systems, and building trust fuels my passion to walk alongside other families so they never have to face this journey alone.
At Better Together, we believe that healing is nurtured through authentic connection and compassionate care. Every family is unique, and we offer support that reflects the real-life challenges and strengths of your journey.
Each family is partnered with a dedicated therapist and family peer support specialist, a trusted team offering both clinical guidance and lived experience. Together, they provide consistent support that honors your family's voice and values.
We also collaborate and advocate with caregivers, schools, and other professionals as needed, helping to create a safe, stable, and healing environment across all areas of life.
You are not alone. We are Better Together.
Family Peer Support is help from someone who’s been there. A Family Peer Support Worker is a trained and certified parent or caregiver who has lived experience raising a child with mental health, behavioral, or developmental challenges. We use that experience—along with professional training—to guide, encourage, and stand beside families as they navigate complex systems, access resources, and build hope.
Family peers:
· Understand the emotional toll and daily realities of parenting through challenges
· Help families advocate for their child’s needs and rights
· Share tools, coping strategies, and system know‑how
· Offer support that is strengths‑based, culturally responsive, and non‑judgmental
In New Mexico, Certified Family Peer Support Workers are trained through the Center of Innovation and recognized by CYFD. Our goal is simple: to make sure no parent has to walk this journey alone.
Family Peer support is built on values that embrace hope, trust, dignity, and growth. By sharing lived experience, our specialists provide guidance, tools, and compassion that foster resilience and lasting change. Together, we’ll create a path toward wellness, self-discovery, and a stronger future for you and your family.
Discover the strength of walking alongside someone who truly understands. Our family peer support specialists are here to guide, listen, and support you every step of the way.

"My family found hope working with Carol and Chasity"
I’m Chasity, a proud mom of four—work I do today. Family is my greatest passion and the foundation for everything I do. That passion extends into my work in family peer support, advocacy, and community building, where I strive to create spaces of encouragement, connection, and growth.
I also love to travel and explore new places with my family, believing that every journey—near or far—offers an opportunity to learn, grow, and create lasting memories together.
✨ Quirky highlight: One of the greatest gifts my grandmother passed on to me is the art of being intentional—turning even the smallest moments into core memories and adventures.
Life has given me plenty of practice in love, laughter, and chaos—and in navigating the heartbreaks that shape us. I know what it’s like to juggle the tender, the tough, and the overwhelming moments of being human, and those lessons show up in my therapy room every day.
My style is warm, honest, and deeply respectful of the challenges you carry. I don’t just hand out “tools”—together we discover what works for you, your story, and your family.
I bring both heart and skill to my work. Healing begins when we feel truly seen and safe.
Outside of my work, I am a printmaker who finds inspiration both outdoors and in my art studio. I love camping with my husband and our dogs, and I recharge by spending time in nature and creating art.
Teil Plont LMSW, AHC
Living the Harriet Tubman Model
Teil believes, “The problem is the problem, the person is not the problem.”
This philosophy guides both his personal and professional life. He is a partner, husband, father, adoptive and foster parent, and active grandparent. A retired Army 1SG and experienced home builder, he also spent years as a nonprofit leader, volunteering with children, families, ICWA, courts, and those experiencing homelessness before moving into the mental health field.
In 2015, Teil became a full-time student, earning his Master’s in Social Work and beginning clinical practice in 2019 as a Licensed Master of Social Work. He is continuing his education with plans to achieve his license of Clinical Social Work.
Teil brings deep experience to his work with families, blending consequence-driven parenting approaches with compassionate, practical language. He is a trauma-informed clinician versed in child, brain, and play development; parenting styles; adolescent struggles; narcissism; CYFD systems; and Crimes Against Children. He integrates evidence-based modalities, including Internal Family Systems, Motivational Interviewing, and Family Structure Systems, and works as part of multidisciplinary teams.
Teil views therapy as intentional and tailored—sometimes lasting only a few months, sometimes longer, depending on the family’s needs. For some parents, change has happened within only a few sessions, while others have found their direction over time. He also models wellness by tending to his own biopsychosocial-spiritual needs and living with reduced ADHD symptoms without medication.
Outside of his clinical work, Teil recently learned to surf and embraces the parallels between surfing and life: sometimes you ride smoothly, sometimes you fall, but there’s always another wave to catch.
